Love Activity

Love Is In The Air Questionaire

 

 

 

This activity was perfect for our Valentines party, but it could be definitely done anytime of the year! All you need is:

 

 

• Valentines Questions
• Microphone
• Strawberries
• Marshmellows/Pretzals etc...
• Long toothpick type sticks
• White/Milk Chocolate Chips
• Portable Heating

 

We gathered residents and employees to create our dating/love panel. We asked them questions and had each person answer. It was such a fun yet simple activity! We loved it! While we did the questions we also had people dipping strawberries! We even dyed the white chocolate to look pink. For time and volunteers sake we actually dipped the strawberries/treats for them and let them eat them. But it would be a more beneficial activity if they dipped the things themselves! We had a lot of extra and passed out all of them amongst the residents who are bed ridden or others who didn't want to join. IT WAS A HIT!

 Here are our questions we used!

 

 

Questions:

·         What is your perfect date?

·         Where did you meet your sig other?

·         When is the perfect time of year to get married?

·         What’s the sweetest thing your sig other ever did for you?

·         How old were you when you got married?

·         What qualities do you look for in the opposite gender?

·         Who wears the pants?

·         In what ways are you and your spouse total opposite?

·         Do you believe in love at first sight?

·         What is sig other habit you don’t enjoy?

·         What should you know about a person before you marry them?

 

Also: just a tip! KEEP THE CHOCOLATE STIRRED! IT WILL BURN VERY QUICK! KEEP ON LOW HEAT!

Easy To Grip

Easy To Grip

This wasn't so much as an activity as it is a very great tool for clients. I work at a skilled nursing home and frequently come across the struggle of residents holding small objects. The goal is to make each resident forget their age and ailments. We came across this picture in our activity searches and decided to try it on our own! By drilling a small hole through the tennis ball and sliding an object through it proved an amazing tool to assist in holding small objects!

Residents who refused to even hold a pencil, or paintbrush now are able to use it willingly! All you need is:

• A Tennis Ball
• A Drill

Don't hesitate to really drill into that ball. It took a moment for it to start to go through.

Things You Will Need:

• Small Plates
• Big Plates
• Paper (for the hat)
• Pipe Cleaner (for the smile)
• Googly Eyes
• Yarn (for the scarf)
• Fuzzy balls (for the buttons)
• Glue
• Scissors
• Orange Felt (for the nose)



This activity is a little more time consuming than the others! But all the more fulfilling! Something about creating something totally their own is so wonderful! Depending on the cognition of your clients you can have them prep their own materials or have it ready for them. So cut out the hats. Trim the pipe cleaner. Cut the felt noses. And take different colored yarn together and braid them to make a scarf. Assemble and glue as desired! We hung them up in our windows (as pictured) We love these because they aren't necessarily just Christmas decorations! They can hang around all winter long!

This was a great activity for my Dementia Residents. I didn't have real flowers on hand so I improvised. They didn't know the difference and loved it just as much! I had them dig holes and put the flowers in patting the sides around the flowers. We even put it in the window to get sunshine! It was a great and simple sensory activity. Especially in the dreary Winter! It brightened up the room! You can even have an indoor garden in your facility that both dementia and cognitive residents could care for! We are going to build one and show pictures soon!

Sensory Bins

I HAD to share this AMAZING blog FULL of amazing amazing sensory bins for Dementia and low cognition patients! (Can you tell how excited I am?) I cannot believe how amazing these ideas are! So in order to remember and come back I had to share! I hope you love it as much as I do!

What you will need

• Paint
• Plates
• Newspaper (something to cover tables)
• Possible aprons
• Q-tips
• Printed Tree Paper

 

This was a great activity! It can be used with high and low cognitive residents. Not all can hold the Q-tip well, but volunteers can help. Cover your tables and put aprons on those that might get a bit messy. I attached two different empty trees to print out. Pour only a little paint of each color on a plate. It goes a long way. Kiss those winter blues good bye and put leaves back on the trees! It was a really great activity!
